Internal organ of the male reproductive system is called the prostate gland or easier – prostate. It plays an important role in the production of 30% of the total volume of semen, and participates in the act of ejaculation and the ability to hold urine. Malignant tumor that develops in the tissues of the prostate gland is called prostate cancer. Statistics of this disease is sad: every seventh man of retirement age has cancer of the prostate. Unfortunately, this disease is a common cause of death in older men.
Earlier diagnosis of impotence was applied to the men who complained of the decrease of the strength of erection, its duration, and as a consequence of the impossibility of conducting a full sexual life. To date, this term has been replaced by erectile dysfunction or ED. Moreover, it has acquired its own nuances – impotence is an extreme form of erectile dysfunction. Even a healthy man may experience problems with erection. In fact, the problem often lies not in the physiological state of the organism, but rather, in its psychological aspect.
Risk factors are the following:
- poor environment;
- bad habits like smoking and taking alcohol;
- working with cadmium;
- retirement age;
- chronic prostate adenoma
Thus, reasons for erectile dysfunction may be either of organic nature, i.e. due to disorders in the human body, or of psychological state of mind due to the peculiarities of the patient. In real life, usually there is a combination of these reasons. Organic causes are divided into endocrine, neurological, vascular, drug and local.
Psychological, usually results in increased anxiety, agitation, depression, indifference to partner with various conflict situations, fatigue, malaise, etc. In this case, it is necessary to talk to a sexologist or psychotherapist. Generally, erectile dysfunction of any degree is amenable to cure. First of all, you need to get full and complete information from the doctor-sexologist. If the cause of the disease is of a physiological nature, you need to be examined by an urologist or andrologist.
Today, there have been worked out a range of techniques for ED treatment: physical therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, magnetic therapy, and methods of treatment using a laser beam. All they effectively contribute to the improvement and normalization of all sexual functions. It is possible that, terms such as impotence and erectile dysfunction will be forgotten in the near future.
